Ed Lapointe, Tax & Estate Planning Consultant for Affinity Financial Group, specializes in advising and implementing tax-based strategies for high net worth individuals, business owners and their families, as part of their overall estate planning process. Ed is a 3rd party consultant, not licensed with CIRO or under the jurisdiction of our regulators.

Ed graduated from St Mary’s University (B Comm.) in 1975 and received his CA in 1977 with Doane Raymond in Halifax. He then spent seventeen years in public practice as a partner in a local firm. His main area of practice was taxation and related planning. In addition to advising clients and other practitioners, he has conducted taxation lectures and instructed courses for the Nova Scotia Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Ed’s involvement with other estate planning professionals led him to the financial planning business on a full time basis in 1994. Since then, his focus has been addressing business, taxation and control issues in the estate planning process. He also is involved with various aspects of the retirement planning process.

He works with clients to ensure they are properly positioned to maximize their accumulation of assets for retirement and then access those assets as efficiently as possible once they are no longer working. The process can involve planning for taxation, structures, ownership and insurance concepts.

Ed has continued to have a taxation perspective working with business clients. He has authored and instructed PD courses for the NS Institute of CA’s on Estate Planning Strategies and using Exempt Life Contracts. He has also presented on Retirement Compensation Arrangements for the Atlantic Chapter of the Canadian Tax Foundation. Ed is a past member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, Dartmouth Chamber of Commerce, Halifax Estate Planning Council, ICANS Professional Development Committee and Board Member for the Halifax Chapter of the Canadian Association of Financial Planners.
